The EU Commission and its president, Jean-Claude Juncker, continue to believe that a "contingency package" of measues to ensure that the Greek program meets its goals through 2018 is not necessary, although the European institution is ready to further discuss the matter if other lenders, primarily the IMF, demand such a mechanism.

Nevertheless, Commission spokeswoman Mina Andreeva said such as development must be implemented in a manner so as to not block the Greek economy's development.

She added that discussions between Athens and its institutional creditors have proceeded well over an agreement to allow for a conclusion of the first review and ensure the sustainability of the Greek debt
