Police in the neighboring Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (fYRoM) on Sunday blocked Mideast refugees attempting to cross the border from Greece at the Idomeni border post, with tear gas and stun grenades employed.

The incident occurred after yet more handwritten signs appeared at a makeshift refugee camp on the Greek side of the border, written in Arabic, calling on the third country nationals push through to the neighboring country.

Hundreds of refugees began to congregate on the rail line linking the two countries earlier in the morning. When a demand by a delegation representing refugees towards the authorities guarding the border on the fYRoM side failed, some 500 third country nationals attempted to break through a border fence.

FYRoM police responded with tear gas and blocked the refugees.
