A total of 124 third country nationals who had not filed requests for asylum in Greece were deported to Turkey from the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos (Lesbos) on Friday, as the March 18 EU-Turkey agreement timidly commenced this week.
A small flotilla of Frontex-hired vessels ferried the foreign nationals – who had illegally entered Greece from neighboring Turkey – to the port of Dikili.
According to reports, one man, a Pakistani national, was not accepted into the country by Turkish authorities and was returned to Lesvos.
The breakdown, in terms of the nationalities of the repatriated third country nationals, were 111 from Pakistan, two from Bangladesh, four from Iraq, four from Indian, a Moroccan man, an Egyptian and a Palestinian, based on his statement to authorities.
