Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos referred to investment possibilities and increasingly expanded ties between Greece and Israel, in statements to the daily “Hayom” ahead of his three-day official visit to the Mideast country on Thursday.

He also cited the burgeoning three-part energy sector cooperation between Israel, Cyprus and Greece as a pylon for stability in the wider region.

Pavlopoulos, a former minister active in politics since the 1970s who was elected by Parliament MPs in early 2015 to the ceremonial head of state position, also referred to the refugee crisis plaguing Greece. He said the country’s coast guard has rescued 150,000 third country nationals in 2015.

Additionally, he cited the growing trend amongst Israeli travellers and tourists to pick Greece as their holiday destination.

He is due to have contacts with Israeli leadership.
