Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras spoke by phone on Tuesday with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, with implementation of a recent EU-Turkey agreement to solve the ongoing refugee crisis dominating the discussion.
According to a Greek government spokeswoman, the Greek side emphasized the need for the immediate operational deployment of NATO in the eastern Aegean – the passage “route” used by Mideast war refugees but also irregular migrants to exit Turkey and land on various Greek isles.
The spokeswoman also praised the recent agreement, saying it opens the way for the safe and humanitarian transfer of refugees from Turkey to Europe.
