A cabinet meeting, chaired by Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, focusing directly on implementing this week’s EU-Turkey agreement on dealing with the ongoing refugee / migrant crisis was concluded on Saturday afternoon.
The leftist Greek government appears to be investing heavily in the latest agreement’s implementation, given that routes on Greece’s northern borders have effectively closed to the flow of legitimate Mideast refugees and irregular third world migrants taking advantage of the crisis to reach preferred west European destinations.
Athens will reportedly unveil its plan to implement the agreement and also ask for assistance from the Commission and other member-states.
Upwards of 40,000 refugees, mostly from Syria and Iraq, are estimated to be in Greece, although an unknown number of newly arrived migrants are also in the country.
Practically all of the third country nationals used Turkey as a "jump off" point to reach various Greek isles over the past year or so since the refugee crisis worsened.
