At least 12 dead after migrant-smuggling vessel sinks off NW Greece

Twelve bodies were retrieved by the Greek coast guard on Saturday morning after a migrant-smuggling vessel sank some 13 nautical miles southwest of Paxos island, in the northern Ionian Sea.

Another 21 people were rescued.

No information was released as yet on the nationalities, ages or the gender of the victims.

The site of the maritime tragedy points to an attempt to ferry irregular migrants from Greece to Italy.
