Move to finally install invalidation-opened gates at Athens metro stations dramatically boosts revenues

The complete closing of up-until-now open gates at the Athens metro and electric train stations, where the invalidation of a ticket was left up to the commuter, has dramatically increased revenue for the state-run organization in mass transit in the Greek capital.

The complete closing of up-until-now open gates at the Athens metro and electric train stations, where the invalidation of a ticket was left up to the commuter, has dramatically increased revenue for the state-run organization in mass transit in the Greek capital.

For instance, the installation of gates that open with the invalidation of a ticket increased the number of tickets recorded by more than 10,000 just on Monday, compared with a week earlier.

The organization's (OASA) revenues shot up since the second half of 2018, when the process began to install the gates. In January and February 2019, revenues increased by 19.4 and 22 percent, respectively, from the same months in 2018.
