Six foreign nationals held in a lockup in central Athens vanished from the facility in the early morning hours of Friday, the latest incident involving escapes from jails in the country.
The six, identified as hailing from Morocco, Algeria and Syria held on theft and robbery charges, escaped from a police facility off Petrou Ralli avenue where foreign nationals illegally in the country are usually held. One of the six was immediately re-arrested, while the other five are being sought.
Initial reports said the group of detainees sawed through the bars of a cell on the second floor of the jail.
