Greece's broadcasting watchdog authority on Tuesday ordered a one-day suspension of programming for an Athens-area television as punishment for an comment directed at Panathinaikos Athens basketball star Thanasis Antetokounmpo, which was deemed as  racist.

Antetokounmpo is the brother of Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The one-day suspension of the Neo Kanali channel was ordered on Jan. 10, 2019, along with a 30,000-euro fine. Members of the independent broadcasting authority also ruled that the program in question was of "very low quality".

The program and its main host, Takis Tsoukalas, have been a mainstay on various marginal Athens-area television stations for more than two decades as a platform for fans of Olympiacos Piraeus, Panathinaikos' main rival.
