Liberalization of Greek ship-repair framework expected to boost sector

An economy and development ministry work group, which included representatives of shortsea shipowners, this week provided the "green light" for at least two major liberalizations in Greece's bureaucracy-plagued ship-repair sector, namely, repairs on anchored vessels and the electronic issuance of relevant licenses by port authorities.

Under the current framework, small-scale repairs and maintenance was allowed when vessels were offshore, with numerous shipowners and firms choosing neighboring countries for such services.
