Greek shipowners and shipping interests invested more than 2.13 billion USD in the first quarter of 2018 for new shipbuilding orders, according to Golden Destiny.
Specifically, according to the ship-broking firm, Greek interests placed orders for 43 vessels (14.9 percent of the total) in the first quarter of the year, significantly up from the same quarter in 2017, when the figure was 18.
First-place went to Chinese companies, which placed orders for 85 vessels, up from 13 in Q1 2017.
The 43 vessels ordered by Greek interests have an average capacity of 99,125 dwt, with a value of 2.13 billion USD, whereas for 14 orders no building cost was available.
