A floating dock recently purchased by the Piraeus Port Authority (PPA) arrived on Sunday morning in the Gulf of Elefsina, west of Piraeus. The new floating dock, "Piraeus III", arrived aboard the vessel "Xin Guang Hua".
The massive metal structure has a length of 240 meters, a width of 45 meters and a depth of 18 meters, and with a lifting capacity of 22,000 tons.
The floating dock will be towed on Monday to the nearby port of Piraeus, and specifically at the Perama shipbuilding and ship-repair zone.
The specific floating dock will be part of the Cosco-managed port authority's primary tools in attracting more ship-repair and maintenance business to Piraeus and Greece, in general.
The goals for PPA are a doubling of turnover in the specific sector and up to 450 vessels serviced per year.
