A three-front wildfire on the southwestern Aegean island of Kythira was finally abating on Monday morning after an entire weekend of efforts by firefighters and local residents to extinguish the flames.

Winds also died down on Monday, which also aided firefighters' efforts to keep the blaze under control.
At last count, the wildfire destroyed some 2,000 hectares of crops, brush land and forests.
