First snowfall blankets much of Greece ahead of New Year's

Snow, low temperatures and rough seas were on the forecast for Thursday and Friday throughout Greece, with several areas in the greater Athens area experiencing their first snowfall of the season.

Frost warnings were also in effect for most mountainous regions and in the north of the country.

Snowfall was also forecast for much of the east Mediterranean country on Friday.
