Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras represented the country at a memorial service in Havana on Tuesday for late Cuban leader Fidel Castro, beginning his brief eulogy -- one of many made at the service -- with "brothers and sisters; brave people of Cuba".
"Today we bid goodbye to commandante Fidel, here in the Plaza de la Revolución, as is fitting for this great revolutionary of the 20th century", the leftist Greek premier told a massive crowd.
Tsipras referred to an "international symbol" of struggle and resistance, calling Castro an "example that inspired peoples' struggles around the world."
He told the crowd of mourners that Castro, who ruled uninterrupted over the island country for five decades after overthrowing the previous dictatorship, was "your Fidel, our Fidel; a Fidel that belongs to every corner of the planet; a Fidel that belongs to history".
He closed out his address with the well-known Latin American revolutionary slogan
"Hastalavictoriasiempre!"
