Main opposition New Democracy (ND) president Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with Bulgarian leadership on Monday in Sofia, as he was received separately by Bulgarian PM Boyko Borissov and Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev.
According to a statement from ND’s headquarters in Athens, Mitsotakis emphasized the significance of the strategic, as he called it, cooperation between Greece and Bulgaria, both in the Balkans and in the wider region. Both sides also agreed to deepen and reinforce this cooperation, reports state.
The explosive refugee / migrant problem was also discussed, in light of the recent and inflammatory statements by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who threatened to flood Europe with migrants, as he said.
Mitsotakis also met with several Greek entrepreneurs active in Bulgaria, a community that has surged in the wake of the economic crisis in Greece, and especially amid the continuing tax increases in the country.
Along those lines, the pro-reform Mitsotakis reiterated his party’s position that only a “generous reduction” in tax rates will jumpstart growth in Greece.
“Only through such a reduction in tax rates on corporate/business profits can a satisfactory incentive be found to significantly increase the level of investments in Greece,” he stressed.
