Developments are ongoing in the latest round of negotiations to find a solution to the long-standing Cyprus problem, as representatives of both major communities on the island – Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots – continued meetings in the Swiss alpine resort of Mont Pelerin.

As previously reported by “N”, a possibility of a multi-party meeting - which would include Greece and Turkey - could be convened at the end of the end of the year, but only with a positive nod by both Athens and Ankara. That development would emerge even if Cyprus President Nikos Anastasiades and Turkish-Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci come to terms in Switzerland.

According to a Greek foreign ministry source, Athens considers that preparation, contacts, talks and even a possible agreement with Ankara on the crucial issue of guarantor powers as necessary before the holding of an expanded meeting.
