Tsipras continues to appeal for debt relief

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, speaking from an EU summit in Brussels, appeared optimistic on Friday over the issue of debt relief for the crisis-battered country, while he emphasized the need for Greece to be included in the ECB’s QE program.

Speaking  a day after getting lukewarm reception by the ECB and EP President Martin Schulz to the standing demand for debt relief, Tsipras reiterated that Greece is meeting its obligations and wants creditors’ to fulfill theirs – a reference to a May 2016 Eurogroup decision.

The issue is now paramount for the embattled Tsipras government, given the political fallout it is facing from this year’s “tax tsunami”, pension cuts and a continuing recession, among others.

Speaking on the sidelines of the summit, the Greek prime minister said debt relief will send a clear message to investors.
