Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis told reporters on Tuesday that the Greek capital attracted some 4.1 million foreign visitors in 2015, while pointing to a “dramatic increase” between 2014 and 2016.

Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis told reporters on Tuesday that the Greek capital attracted some 4.1 million foreign visitors in 2015, while pointing to a “dramatic increase” between 2014 and 2016.

Kaminis spoke at a press conference after the holding of the fourth annual Travel Trade Athens event.

The Athens mayor said it was the best figure ever for tourism arrivals in the Greek capital, which has seen its fair share of upheavals and social pressure during seven straight years of economic meltdown in the country.

Additionally, he promised that municipal duties – slapped on electricity bills – will have been reduced by 20 percent when his tenure is completed in 2019.
