Greek military sources on Tuesday said a formation of four Turkish warplanes entered the Athens FIR at 2:33 p.m. (12.33 GMT) between the eastern Aegean islands of Lesvos and Hios (Chios) before veering off into pairs.
The warplanes, identified as F-16s, were flying at an altitude of 10,000 feet, with one of the four intruders reportedly flying over an islet close to Lesvos, before exiting the Athens FIR eight minutes later after heading north and then east.
Hellenic Air Force jet fighters were scrambled to intercept the four intruding aircraft, according to reports.
