Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich over the weekend was quoted as revealing that the Greek government has proposed the creation of a joint consortium with Moscow to exploit natural resources in Greece
“There are projects proposed by our Greek counterparts, such as a consortium to exploit natural resources on Greek territory,” he told reporters during a visit to the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki.
Dvorkovich said the projects were proposed at “the highest level… and by the Greek prime minister. Talks are being held over this issue… but it will need the approval of Greek authorities”.
He also noted that Russian energy giant Gazprom is in talks with several Greece-based companies, including IGI Poseidon S.A.
The latter is a joint venture between DE.PA, the public natgas provider in the country, and Italy-based Edison Spa, and is responsible for the design, construction and operation of the offshore Interconnector Greece-Italy pipeline.
