All total, 4.1 million taxpayers and legal entities owe the tax bureau money, ranging from millions of euros to this month’s second installment of income taxes for 2015.
Specifically, 4,128,962 taxpayers and legal entities (partnerships, shops, companies etc) show arrears to the tax bureau in July 2016, up from 4,003,372 in the previous month, with total arrears reaching a massive figure of 90.42 billion euros in July 2016, up from 89.83 billion euros in June 2016.
At the same time, tax authorities in crisis-plagued Greece are reportedly accelerating procedures to legally seize property, bank deposits and even salaries of debtors to the state.
Court-order seizures and confiscations exceeded 79,000 over the first seven months of 2016, with 18,500 legal actions taken in July 2016 alone.
