The Public Power Corp., Greece’s dominant power provider, on Wednesday announced that it will sign a MoU with the Chinese company CMEC for the construction of a second lignite-fired unit at its Meliti station in extreme northwest Greece.
The MoU will be signed in mid-September, the listed company said, with CMEC executive Fang Yanshui representing the Chinese multinational. PPC said a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) was signed last June in Beijing.
PPC, which remains a state-run utility, said its Meliti project, in Florina prefecture, foresees a 700-million-euro budget and investments in nearby lignite pits that raise the total investment to more than one billion euros.
