Speculation was rife in the Greek capital this week over a pending bid for the iconic Athens Hilton by Tempes, a London-based investment vehicle controlled by the Konstantakopoulos brothers, in partnership with the Turkey-based Dogus group.
The Athens Hilton is currently owned and managed by a subsidiary belonging to Alpha Bank, one of Greece’s four systemic lenders.
Dogus is already participating in the international consortium that recently won a tender to assume the management of the renowned Vouliagmeni Asteras resort in a coastal promontory southeast of Athens proper.
The same ambitious Turkish group also enjoys a high-profile presence in several Greece marinas, in partnership with the Kyriakoulis group.
Reports hold at that the Konstantakopoulos-Dogus partnership is a leading contender for the Athens Hilton, although Alpha Bank has been completely silent on the speculation.
If a sale does proceed, then the procedure is not expected to be completed before the end of the year.
