The port of Piraeus is posting an increase of 14 percent this year in the number of cruise ship passengers that transit through home-ported vessels.
According to the management of the Piraeus Port Authority (OLP), the increase is due to the fact that several major operators -- Celestyal Cruises, Azamara Club Cruises, Celebrity Cruises, Princess Cruises, Cunard Line, Costa Cruises and Seabourn Cruise Line – are now using Piraeus as a turnaround. Additionally, a growing presence by Carnival, the world’s largest cruise operator, is expected to further boost growth at Greece’s largest and busiest port.
The newly built Carnival Vista alone is expected to transport 50,000 passengers this summer season from and to the port of Piraeus.
