Dock workers and stevedores at the port of Piraeus on Thursday announced that they will suspend industrial actions during the regular work week but continue to abstain from overtime and weekend shifts.
The decision comes as a contract transferring the management of the Piraeus Port Authority (OLP) and a majority of its shares to Chinese multinational Cosco is ready to be tabled in Parliament for ratification.
According to relevant maritime Minister Thodoris Dritsas, in statements to “N”, the government is making every possible effort to submit the contract to Parliament for debate and a vote by the beginning of next week.
The legislative process, however, depends on Parliament's schedule, although the leftist Greek government wants the contract signed and delivered before Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras heads for an official visit to Beijing at the end of the month.
