City Crop declared Greek winner of Start Tel Aviv 2016 competition

Athens-based City Crop was declared the winner of the Start Tel Aviv 2016 competition for Greece, during a special pitching event on Thursday at the Impact Hub Athens.

Athens-based City Crop was declared the winner of the Start Tel Aviv 2016 competition for Greece, during a special pitching event on Thursday at the Impact Hub Athens.

A panel of judges included Greek and Israeli experts, while also in attendance were Israeli Ambassador to Greece Irit Ben Abba, the co-founder of the Industry Disruptors - Game Changers (ID-GC) initiative, Mihalis Stangos, and numerous other local startup entrepreneurs.

According to the event’s organizers, 75 participants were fielded, with most representing the sectors of IT, health care, agro-industry and the environment. 

The Israeli embassy in Greece and ID-GC, a Greek organization that promotes innovative entrepreneurship, organized the competition-event for Greek start-uppers, part of the “Start Tel Aviv 2016” initiative.

The winner from Greece will participate in a five-day professional international start up seminar in Israel, the DLD Tel Aviv Innovation Festival, at the end of September.      

Start Tel Aviv 2016 is a global competition held by the Israeli ministry of foreign affairs and Tel Aviv Municipality that brings together an from numerous countries around the world to compete for the opportunity to take part in the intense entrepreneurial experience of Tel Aviv's highly regarded startup environment.

Last year, 44 Greece-based start-ups participated in the competition, representing sectors such as medical technology, mobile phone applications, IT and others.
