UN Chief Ban-ki Moon will visit Athens and the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos between June 17 and June 19, his office announced on Thursday.
He will meet with Greek leadership, before traveling to the island on Saturday, June 18 to meet with Mideast war refugees, other third country migrants and asylum seekers.
Lesvos has been the main “target” of migrant smugglers operating from the opposite Turkish coast for the past year and a half, with tens of thousands of third country nationals ferried onto Greek territory in a bid to reach preferred destinations in central and western Europe.
