The chief archaeologist in the excavations at the ancient Stageira site appears certain that a monument uncovered there, and the years of research that followed, is dedicated to the ancient philosopher Aristotle, and also marks the site where the latter’s ashes were buried in an elaborate tomb.

“From the moment the monument was uncovered, I suspected that it was the tomb of Aristotle. Nevertheless, I had certain doubts, and I wanted to first verify (the assumption). Therefore, we researched all the ancient sources, and I concluded, without a doubt, that it was indeed Aristotle’s tomb. I have not published this as yet because, in the meantime, I wrote three voluminous publications on the excavations at Stageira,” archaeology professor Costas Sismanidis said.
