The Greek state posted a primary budget surplus of 2.9 billion euros in the January-April period, up from one billion euros in the corresponding period last year, the Bank of Greece announced on Friday.

The central bank, in a report on the central government cash balance, said that in the four-month period, the cash balance showed a surplus of 205 million euros, compared with a deficit of 1.49 billion euros in the same period last year.

Lower expenditures, along with reduced revenues, are reportedly mostly behind the surplus figure.
