The wife of the Jordanian monarch, Queen Rania, visited the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos (Lesbos) on Monday and toured a temporary refugee shelter at the Kara Tepe site on the island.
The facility is run by the island's municipality and the NGO IRC.
Lesvos has been inundated by Mideast war refugees being smuggled onto the island from neighboring Turkey. The ongoing crisis over the past year and a half has also allowed third country undocumented migrants, from as far away as Morocco and Myanmar, the opportunity to sneak into Greece as a first EU stop towards other preferred destinations in central and western Europe.
