A total of 18 gold bars, weighing 33.5 kilos, were confiscated by customs officers inside a taxi cab at the Kipi border post on the land frontier with Turkey, in northeast Greece.
A total of 18 gold bars, weighing 33.5 kilos, were confiscated by customs officers inside a taxi cab at the Kipi border post on the land frontier with Turkey, in northeast Greece.
The gold was discovered on Friday morning inside the vehicle. Seven of the gold bars were hidden in the vehicle’s suspension and the other 11 inside luggage.
Along with four golden crosses, the quantity of gold was valued at roughly 800,000 euros, with taxes alone reaching 200,000.
A pair of suspects were arrested and charged with the illegal export of gold.
