The Kalamata port fund and the firm Hellenic Seaplanes have filed a request to acquire a seaplane route license for the same-name coastal city in extreme southwest Greece.
A license from the relevant transport ministry is the main condition, although previous attempts to operate seaplane routes in various coastal sites and islands around Greece has met with numerous bureaucratic obstacles in the past, as well as issues of economic viability.
Although Kalamata has a nearby regional airport, a seaplane route operating from its port would open up numerous destinations around the Peloponnese and nearby islands.
