Greek public order minister: No ISIS cells in Greece

The relevant Greek minister responsible for public safety on Friday was quoted as saying that there are no “active ISIS cells” in Greece, merely noting that “such individuals may have passed through our country, but the Muslim communities on Greek territory are comprised of peaceful people who condemn such actions”.

Alternate Citizens’ Protection Minister Nikos Toskas was referring to groups of migrants from predominately Muslim countries that hold permanent or temporary residence permits in the country. He made the statement to a local newspaper.  

He also employed an ideological paradigm -- mostly heard by leftist parties -- to base his contention that Greece is safe from terrorist attacks, saying the country does not have a “history of colonialism or imperialistic interventions … Others provoke the wars and we receive the consequences … we’re taking precautionary measures, cooperating with countries that were hit by bomb attacks.”
