EU Commission Dimitris Avramopoulos, who holds the home affairs and migration portfolio, on Friday warned that Greece will have until May 12 to identify and register all of the refugees that have entered its territory and better protect its frontiers, otherwise greater borders control around Europe will be instituted.
Avramopoulos, a former career diplomat and long-time conservative party minister in Greece, made the statement to the German daily Die Welt.
«Greece has until May to protect its external borders. We will evaluate the situation on May 12. If we do not see progress until then we will not hesitate to create the regulations so that border controls expand in Europe,» he said.
