The Greek government declined a request by Austrian Interior Minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner to officially visit Greece next week, the foreign ministry in Athens announced, in the wake of soured relations between the two EU partners over the ongoing refugee / migrant crisis swamping much of SE Europe.

The leftist Greek government appears particularly peeved over Vienna’s initiative to stem the tide of the refugee and irregular migrant flow reaching its territory, as well as its coordination with several countries along the so-called “Balkan route”, excluding Greece from consultations.
Greece’s ambassador from Vienna has been recalled to Athens while the Austrian government has also referred to the danger of a Schengen pact breakdown in terms of Greece.
