A central bank source told Reuters on Thursday that the Greek state will spend more than half a billion euros in 2016 to deal with the effects of the ongoing migrant / refugee crisis.
“It's a conservative estimate, costs could go up if there
is an increased inflow and refugees become stranded in Greece due
to border closures," the source was quoted as saying.
The cost breakdown includes search and rescue operations, hosting the mostly third world nationals in temporary shelters and repatriation expenses for the trickle of irregular migrants willing to return to their home country.
