The greek government on Thursday apparently reversed an earlier decision to replace the long-time head of Greek Police’s (EL.AS) electronic crimes unit, Manolis Sfakianakis, after heated reactions and opposition criticism.

A press release issued by police headquarters merely stated that Sfakianakis’ appeal of the decision to transfer him out of the unit was accepted.

The veteran police official, viewed as one of the more successful law enforcement cadres in the country, was previously slated for a post in an administrative support and human resources unit, a move viewed as a demotion.
