A closed-door briefing of members of a relevant defence and foreign affairs committee in Greece’s Parliament turned ugly on Wednesday after MPs from the far-right Golden Dawn (Chryssi Avgi) party were expelled for hurling insults at the armed forces chiefs and for allegedly videotaping the proceedings.
The briefing was held to brief committee members on the ongoing refugee / migrant crisis and a decision to allow NATO vessels to assist with detection operations in the eastern Aegean. The development comes as thousands of Mideast refugees and Third World irregular migrants continue to land on various Greek isles from neighboring Turkey, “starting points” in the Union for other destinations in northern and western Europe.
The session was interrupted after GD deputies Christos Pappas and Ilias Kasidiaris reportedly called Greek Defence Minister Panos Kammenos and military chiefs “traitors”, as well as “Filipino maids” facilitating the entry and further transportation of the third country nationals into Greece and the EU.
MPs other parties unanimously voted to request the expulsion of the two GD deputies from the session.
